Our Purpose
The purpose of OWP is to build a Welcoming Community of Learners. Together we are elements of positive change in our environment and the world.
Welcoming
Above all, we want to create a space in which everybody – from students, to teachers and staff, to family and friends – feels valued, welcomed, and invited to learn.
Community
We intentionally choose creating community because we believe people need a sense of belonging and safety in order to reach their potential to affect change.
We create community in our classrooms, our school, and in our extended community - our neighborhood, city, and world. Every person contributes and plays a unique part in supporting our students and in fostering a loving, curious, and nurturing environment. We know that our strengths lie in the celebration of our differences, and that together we can affect real change.
Of Learners
We view education as a collaborative and life-long process. We think educators and parents are learners, too. We know that we are all learners and this is a place where we seek to suspend judgment, learn from our mistakes, and commit to vulnerability and learning.
